Location: Sachem Public Library
Ages: 8–10 (Grades 3–5)
Open to: Sachem Library cardholders only
Capacity: 20 children
Join us for a hands-on crafting experience inspired by the art of coil basket weaving! In this workshop, children will use vibrant yarn and soft rope to create their own small woven bowls, learning a modern take on one of humanity’s most enduring skills.
From Native American cultures to ancient African and Asian traditions, coiled basketry has been used for generations to carry food, store herbs, and celebrate community. Kids will explore this cultural heritage while developing patience, creativity, and handcrafting confidence.
Each participant will:
- Learn the basic coil weaving technique using age-friendly tools
- Create a colorful, take-home coiled bowl
- Receive an optional take-home guide to finish their project independently
This workshop is perfect for creative minds who love to work with their hands, and no prior experience is needed.
Space is limited to 20 participants, and registration is open only to Sachem Library cardholders.
